The Royal Military Band of Luxembourg is amongst the finest professional military bands in Europe and under the outstanding leadership of Col. He has worked with several legendary conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Pierre Boulez and Bernard Haitink and he is currently booked for solo performances in USA and Japan. After early studies in Luxembourg Philippe Schartz attended the Royal Academy of Music, London and the Eastman School of New York. He displayed a rare talent and an exceptional potential and it will be interesting to follow his future career. Philippe Schartz was the central artist of the whole evening, performing both trumpet concertos, and several other compositions, with an impressively secure technique and a range of expression, from stridently heroic to warm and tender, that spellbound the packed house. Schartz also performed the Concerto for Trumpet and Band by Trevor Ford. The concert was organized by The Friends of Military Music in celebration of their 10 years jubilee, and it took place in the magnificent Hall of the Philharmonie in Luxembourg city. The works specially written for trumpet include the Trumpet Concerto by Marco Ptz and several other pieces for trumpet ensemble by Luxembourg composers, Roland Wiltgren and Jean-Paul Frisch. For the five movement trumpet quartet “Trumpets on Trip”, by Jean-Paul Frisch, Schartz was joined by Raoul Christophe, Ernie Hammes and Guy Conter. The occasion was the simultaneous release, in 128 different countries, of a new CD featuring several of Luxembourg`s finest trumpet players. Andrè Reichling, performed a programme that was largely devoted to the trumpet.
